How to find out where your hosting space is going

How to find out where your hosting space is going

First when you log in to your control panel, you will see on the left hand side, the HOSTING PACKAGE of your account (starter is 20 megs) and you will see your DISK SPACE USAGE (about 6 down from that). Always look there to see how much you are using.

Find out where your hosting space is going on our servers.

First, log in to your control panel

Second make a not of how much space you have in the disk space usage as compared to the disk space available areas. This will tell you how much space you have left.

Inside CPANEL, there is an ICON called DISK USAGE. Click on the disk usage icon.

This will show you what folders, have all the files and how much is inside of them.

If you click on the “top left button” called SHOW PARENT DIRECTORIES – it will show you how much each folder is taking up and where your space is going.

If you have a large “TMP” folder, this is your temporary folder and can be deleted to save space.

*warning* If you delete the wrong folders, you are responsible for your own data and we may not be able to recover it. Please do this at your own risk. Your best bet to save space, is just to upgrade your hosting package, if you do not know what you are doing.

To delete the tmp folder, all you do is go back to control panel, find the FILE MANAGER. Once inside the file manager, just find the tmp folder. You can then click on the link and a new menu will appear in the top right. Click delete and then click the trash icon below it. REMEMBER: cpanel takes a bit of time to update, so it may not show right away, but be assured you are deleting it, if you are doing this from the file manager.

How much space is Email taking up?

Another quick trick to check how much your email is taking up, is to log on to CPANEL.

Then all you do is click on the MAIL ICON – then click on “Manage/Add/Remove Accounts”

Then you click on SHOW DISK SPACE USED. This gives you an idea of where everything is going and how much email your site is storing.

If you do run out of space and its not sending you email, you can always log in to webmail.

Log in to webmail like this

You can enter your control panel passwords to enter in the main account or you can log in to each individual email account. If you do log in to a specific email account, you have to enter your full email address for your username and your password. You can then delete emails or clear out your space if needed.
